The 996 was the successor to the 993 in the 911 model series Production was from 1997-2005 Original 996 had 3.4L boxer-6 with 300 hp, ran 0-62 mph in 5.4 secs, and top speed of 173 mph 996 GT3 had 3.6L 381 hp plant, ran 0-62 mph in 4.5 secs, and top speed of 191 mph 996 GT2 had 3.6L 462 hp twin turbo plant, ran 0-62 mph in 4.1 secs, and top speed of 197 mph.
